Introducing Our Team

We could never do what we do without such a great group of dedicated people. In recognition of all that our team contributes, Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes became an ESOP (employee-owned company) as of February, 2019. Here are some of the people you may meet as we work on your landscape.

Ted Carter

Founder, President, and Principal Designer

I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of 14, my parents moved the family to Maine. I started my first landscaping business while I was still in high school doing landscape maintenance and designing and installing mostly for commercial accounts. After living in Texas for a portion of my 20s, I returned to Maine and have been designing and installing landscapes for residential clients throughout New England for more than 30 years.

Operations Manager

I am originally from the Midwest but have lived in New England since 1999 and moved to Maine in 2015. I come from a long line of farmers and people who worked the land. My father is an agronomist (soil scientist) and while I was growing up my parents had an agricultural consulting business. Some of my earliest work experiences were collecting soil samples and washing labware.

I joined Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes at the end of 2020 as the Operations Manager. My previous management experience is varied and includes the fields of graphic design, data management, and software implementation.

Production Manager

Hello! I’m Harry Portlock, the Production Manager here at Ted Carter Landscapes. This will be my 9th season working with Ted and my 10th season in the industry. After graduating from Gorham High School in 2014, I studied Horticulture at Southern Maine Community College from 2014–2016. I’ve always had a fascination with the natural world, and I love to wear many hats. As a result, my role in this company is a versatile one - when I’m not stacking stones or planting trees in the field, you can find me in the office working on anything from small designs and plant palettes, to estimates and scheduling. I am extremely grateful to work with a team of such wonderful and creative folks. My hobbies are diverse and numerous and include fly fishing, snowboarding, canoeing, disc golf, skateboarding, growing plants, making music, and working on cars. I can’t wait to be a part of your next landscape project!

Field Production

I was born and raised in Blue Hill, Maine. After graduating from George Stevens Academy and travelling for a year, I attended the School of Music at The University of Southern Maine where I studied drums. I graduated in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in music performance and began to pursue a career in my second passion, landscaping. After five years of learning the maintenance side of the business, I decided I wanted to focus on installations. I started working for Ted Carter Landscapes in 2016, and have loved every minute of it since. I look forward to furthering my career and continuing to learn about landscape design and horticulture.

When I'm not working, I enjoy being with my wife and two kids, playing music, and spending time outdoors.

Isaiah Clarke

I grew up in Westbrook, Maine and am a 2022 graduate of Standish Baptist Academy. Prior to joining Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes, I worked at LaBrecque Construction in Portland and later achieved a commercial driver’s license.

I enjoy working with natural stone and am looking forward to developing my hardscaping skills working with bluestone and Mystic Mountain granite. Some hobbies of mine include playing basketball and spending time outdoors camping, hiking, and fishing.

Elijah Karecki

Field Production

I’ve lived in Maine for most of my life and am a 2021 graduate of Massabesic High School and Sanford Regional Technical Center where I studied Graphic Design. I joined Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes in the spring of 2022. What I enjoy about landscaping is working outside with the crew and doing new things everyday. I am looking forward to working more with natural stone and developing my hardscaping and walling skills. Outside of landscaping, my interests include working out, fashion, hiking, and playing ultimate frisbee.

Office Manager

It is my job to keep the office running smoothly. I have worked for Ted since 2012 and can honestly say I love my job! Summer is my favorite season and I enjoy spending time at my pool or Sebago Lake with my husband and three daughters. When I’m not at work, I keep busy being a wife and mom and I love to work on scrapbook albums of my girls.

I am a true Mainer – born and raised here. I live in South Portland, just a short distance from my parents who still live in the house where I grew up. I graduated from the University of Southern Maine with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.

Kari Gallow-Wright

Landscape Designer

Born and raised in Upstate New York, I moved to Maine in 2009. I have a degree in Architecture from Hobart & William Smith Colleges, and a Master in Landscape Architecture degree from Cornell University. After relocating to beautiful Maine, I worked for a small firm completing Master Planning, Urban Renewal, and Residential Design projects in the region. I also worked for several years in management related to the building trades. I joined Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes in 2022 as a Landscape Designer.

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughter exploring Maine. You can also find me at home where I enjoy cooking, reading, and gardening.

Landscape Foreman

I grew up in North Haven, Connecticut. In 2019 I graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelors in General Studies & a concentration in Digital Design. Shortly after graduating, I moved to Portland and quickly fell in love with Maine. When I’m not working, I like to spend my time hiking, skateboarding, or just exploring the many restaurants and small businesses in Portland. Working for Ted has been a refreshing experience after working for a large corporation. I think the fact that we have a small crew creates a good team dynamic and a fun environment to work in. It’s a pleasure working on such interesting and amazing projects, and it’s a great feeling to see the finished products!

Ben Provost

Field Production

I was raised in a log cabin in Eaton NH, a small town in the foothills of the White Mountains. My family has always spent most of our life outdoors, whether it's hiking, swimming in lakes and rivers, or splitting wood for the stove, and being outside is where I am happiest.

I have cultivated my career in plants and landscaping since my 20s. My early experience included creating and maintaining garden installations and working alongside arborists to remove trees. In recent years I've worked hard to expand my skills, learning how to operate heavy equipment, honing my knowledge of perennial plants and shrubs, and expanding proficiency in various hardscape and masonry techniques.

I'm excited to be at Ted Carter Landscapes because I have the opportunity to continuously improve every aspect of my craft, and to participate in bringing thoughtful and creative designs to fruition at some of the most beautiful locations in the state. Our team is close-knit and capable, and I enjoy every day that we get to spend working together!

On my own time, I enjoy gardening with my wife at our home, reading history and philosophy, caring for bonsai trees, and trying to figure out if my dog wants a toy or a walk.
