Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes –
The Company

Our founder, Ted Carter, has been creating landscapes for more than 40 years. The current embodiment of the company was established as a Maine-based corporation in 1996. More recently, the company became an employee-owned business when the organization became an ESOP in 2019. Ted continues to lead the company in the dual roles of President and Principal Designer.

Our Approach

Specializing in a naturalistic style, our aim is to create a landscape that not only fits the existing environment, but looks as though it has always been there. We endeavor to create landscapes that are both attractive and functional. We work closely and collaboratively with our clients to ensure their wishes and needs are listened to and interpreted correctly. We emphasize the importance of a strong visual relationship between the inside and outside of our clients’ homes.

Our Mission & Values

Our Mission

Empowering people through cultivating relationships with our clients, our team members, and the Earth.

Through our transformative landscape designs and installations, we strive to awaken in ourselves, our clients, our team members, and our collaborators the ancient and enduring connection to the natural world around us.

Our Values

  • Using our individual strengths is what makes the team stronger.

As we witness diversity in nature, we also embrace it in ourselves and others.

  • Humility is celebrated here.

It’s OK to ask for help.

  • Be honest and keep your word.

There is no medium humbler and more honest than working with the soil from which we have all emerged. Soil is where it all begins and where it ends. Knowing this indelible truth naturally brings honesty and accountability to each other, our clients, and our planet.

  • Take pride in your work and produce quality landscapes.

  • Raise the bar high, then help others exceed it with you.

Our company takes pride in our work and recognizes the imprint of the timeless, enduring beauty we leave on our planet.

  • Take self-inventory often. Reflect, reveal, revise.

The mutual respect and integrity by which we embrace our life’s work we naturally carry into our workplace as we engage with one another.

  • Learn one thing every day and share it with a co-worker.

  • There is no failure. We either succeed or we learn.

As a team we become a living, learning composite of the body of work we create. We have a rich well of knowledge from which to draw as projects continually unfold.

  • Let kindness be contagious.

  • Practice gratitude.

From our engagement with soil, stone, and plants we recognize the Earth to be an intelligent, self-regulating system of which all life forms are a part.

Through thoughtful and creative design, we strive to install environments that bring peace and harmony to all who engage with our landscape installations.
