Blended Landscape for a Federal-Style House

Property location: Kennebunkport, Maine

The original house dates to circa 1799. The current homeowners wanted to bring more light into the home and decided to build a sunroom addition off the main structure that would give them additional entertaining space and more direct access to the largest portion of the outdoor space. Ted Carter Inspired Landscapes (TCIL) was enlisted to help integrate the addition into the landscape by designing an outdoor dining and entertaining space, as well as refurbishing the formal garden once the building addition was complete. An outdoor fireplace was included as a central feature of the granite terrace and significantly contributes to the concept of the space being an “outdoor room.” TCIL also revised the walkway and gardens for the entrance on the opposite side of the house.
