Quiet Retreat
at the Edge of the Woods

Property location

Falmouth, Maine

This Falmouth residence is nestled at the end of the street and the rear of the house backs onto acres of forested land. Because of the steep grade change from the front to the back of the property, it was determined that the best location for an outdoor sitting area was a portion of the front yard that was on the edge of the woods. The stone stairs lead down to a granite bridge that traverses a dry stream bed. There is a year-round stream within earshot of the property that contributes to the ambience of the setting. The front walkway was created using bluestone pattern pavers. The seating area was created using natural-cleft bluestone flagging.
